Inn on the Mexican War Streets BOUTIQUE HOTEL$$$
( 412-231-6544; www.innonthemexicanwarstreets.com ; 604 W North Ave; r incl breakfast
$139-199; ) This historic, gay-owned mansion on the North Side is near the mu-
seums and right on the bus line that takes you downtown. Expect hearty homemade
breakfasts, charming hosts, stunning antique furnishings and an elegant porch, plus a
martini lounge and the four-star restaurant Acanthus.
Morning Glory Inn B&B$$$
( 412-431-1707; www.gloryinn.com ; 2119 Sarah St; r incl breakfast $155-195, ste $190-450;
) An Italianate-style Victorian brick town house popular for weddings, the Morning
Glory is in the heart of the busy South Side. The overall decor is slightly chintzy - think
floral patterns, wicker furniture, four-poster beds - but you can relax in the charming
backyard patio, and delicious breakfasts are a major plus.
Parador Inn B&B$$$
( 412-231-4800; www.theparadorinn.com ; 939 Western Ave; r incl breakfast $150; )
This lovingly restored mansion on the North Side not far from the National Aviary and
Heinz Field is a charming hodgepodge of aesthetic influence - from Victorian to Carib-
bean and everything in between. The owner is on hand to answer any questions and there
are public rooms and a garden to relax in.
Sunnyledge HOTEL$$$
( 412-683-5014; www.sunnyledge.com ; 5124 Fifth Ave; r/ste $189/275; ) Though it
refers to itself as a 'boutique hotel,' it would be more accurate to describe the
Sunnyledge as a 'historic' one. Housed in an 1886 mansion in Shadyside, the atmosphere
is one of traditional elegance, overwrought at times. The restaurant on the premises gets
mixed reviews.
Omni William Penn Hotel HOTEL$$$
$$$
( 412-281-7100; www.omnihotels.com ; 530 William Penn Place; r from $200; ) Though
originally built by Henry Clay Frick nearly 100 years ago, his European inspiration is
alive and well in this elegant and stately downtown behemoth. High tea is served in the
grand lobby, which is (surprisingly) otherwise a welcoming meeting place for nonguests.
Above-average service, contemporary room furnishings, a spa, several dining options
and a newly opened basement speakeasy bar round out the offerings.
