In-Depth Information
University City
This neighborhood, separated from downtown Philly by the Schuylkill River, feels like
one big college town. That's because it's home to both Drexel University and the Ivy
League University of Pennsylvania (commonly called 'U Penn'), founded in 1740. The
leafy, bustling campus makes for a pleasant afternoon stroll, and it's got two museums
definitely worth a visit.

WORTH A TRIP
PHILLY'S OUTLYING 'HOODS
Manayunk
A compact residential neighborhood northwest of the city, with steep hills and
Victorian row houses, Manayunk, from a Native American expression meaning
'where we go to drink,' is a lovely place for an afternoon and evening. Just be aware
that thousands of others have the same idea on weekend nights, when this other-
wise peaceful area overlooking the Schuylkill River has the feel of a raucous frat
party. As well as drinking, visitors are also permitted to eat and shop (check out Da-
lessandro's and Chubby's for classic Philly sandwiches and cheesesteaks). Parking
is near impossible to come by here on weekends, so cycling is a good option -
there's a towpath that runs alongside the neighborhood.
