Lombard Sts north and south. Along the cobblestoned streets you'll see mainly 18th- and
19th-century brick row houses, mixed in with the occasional modern high-rise, such as
the Society Hill Towers designed by IM Pei. Washington Square was conceived as part
of William Penn's original city plan, and offers a peaceful respite from sightseeing. Two
18th-century brownstones, the Physick House and Powel House are open to the public
for tours through the Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks (
