Princeton & Around
Settled by an English Quaker missionary, the tiny town of Princeton is filled with lovely
architecture and several noteworthy sites, number one of which is its Ivy League Prin-
ceton University ( www.princeton.edu ) , which was built in the mid-1700s and soon became
one of the largest structures in the early colonies. The town's Palmer Square , built in
1936, is a lovely place to shop and stroll. The Historical Society of Princeton (
609-921-6748; www.princetonhistory.org ; 158 Nassau St; tours adult/child $7/4) leads historical
walking tours of the town on Sundays at 2pm, and the Orange Key Guide Service &
Campus Information Office ( 609-258-3060; www.princeton.edu/orangekey ) offers free
university tours. The Princeton University Art Museum ( 609-258-3788;
www.princetonartmuseum.org ; McCormack Hall, Princeton University Campus; 10am-5pm, to
10pm Thu) is akin to a mini-Metropolitan Museum of Art in terms of its variety
and quality of works, which range from ancient Greek pottery to Andy Warhol.
