Hip and lively, even on summertime Monday nights when the backyard patio also fills
up, this Allentown restaurant serves up tacos, burritos and quesadillas. Some come with a
twist like the Koreatown (Kalbi short ribs, kimchee and soy sauce). The desserts are ex-
cellent and super-efficient bartenders really know their mescals.

Sat) One of Buffalo's oldest taverns has warped floors, dark-wood walls and gut-busting
German specialties like liverwurst and red onions on rye, and a fish fry that comes with
red cabbage, sauerkraut, potatoes and vegetables.
Betty's MODERN AMERICAN$$$

Sat, 9am-3pm Sun) On a quiet Allentown corner, slightly funky and bohemian Betty's does
healthy and flavorful interpretations of American comfort food like meatloaf. Brunch is
deservedly popular.
Drinking & Entertainment
A handful of bars along Chippewa St (aka Chip Strip) are open until 4am and cater
primarily to the frat-boy crowd. More eclectic neighborhoods such as Elmwood, Lin-
wood and Allentown have more than their fair share of late-night options. Allen St has a
few dive bars with live music clustered near one another, including Nietzches and Duke's
Bohemian Grove Bar. Several gay bars are around the south end of Elmwood. From June
through August a summer concert series ( 716-856-3150; www.buffaloplace.com ) draws
an eclectic mix of new and established artists to outdoor spaces in downtown.
Pan American Grill & Brewery BREWERY

midnight Fri & Sat, noon-10pm Sun) Several rooms, including two massive old-school ma-
hogany bars, a lounge themed on a Teddy Roosevelt hunting lodge, and a mural room
with vaulted ceilings, make up this space, which occupies a good chunk of Hotel Lafay-
ette's ground floor. Their own beer is brewed in the basement and an excellent kitchen
