It is rare to find accommodations in New York City that do not offer a way for guests to
connect to the internet - a log-in fee is often required.
New York Public Library ( 212-930-0800; www.nypl.org/branch/local ; E 42nd St, at Fifth
Ave; B, D, F or M to 42nd St-Bryant Park) offers free internet access for laptop toters and
half-hour internet access via public terminals at almost all of its locations around the city.
Free wi-fi hotspots include Bryant Park, Battery Park, Tompkins Square Park and
Union Square Park; other public areas with free wi-fi include Lincoln Center, Columbia
University, South Street Seaport and Dumbo in Brooklyn and of course nearly 200 Star-
bucks scattered around the city.
Internet kiosks can also be found at Staples ( www.staples.com ) and FedEx Kinko
( www.fedexkinkos.com ) locations around the city.

Daily News ( www.nydailynews.com ) A daily tabloid, leans toward the sensational - ar-
chrival of the New York Post .
New York ( www.newyorkmagazine.com ) Weekly featuring nationally oriented reporting as
well as NYC-centric news and listings for the arts and culture-oriented reader.
New York Post ( www.nypost.com ) Famous for spicy headlines, celebrity scandal-laden
Page Six and good sports coverage.
New York Times ( www.nytimes.com ) The 'Gray Lady' is the newspaper of record for read-
ers throughout the US.
NY1 (Time Warner Cable, Channel 1; www.ny1.com ) This is the city's all-day news station on
Time Warner cable's Channel 1.
Village Voice ( www.villagevoice.com ) The weekly tabloid is still a good resource for events,
clubs and music listings.
WFUV-90.7FM The area's best alternative-music radio station is run by the Bronx's
Fordham University.
WNYC 820am or 93.9FM National Public Radio's local affiliate.
