Cinemas
Long lines in the evenings and on weekends are the norm. It's recommended that you
call and buy your tickets in advance (unless it's midweek, midday or for a film that's
been out for months already). Most cinemas are handled either through Movie Fone (
212-777-3456; www.moviefone.com ) or Fandango ( www.fandango.com ) . You'll have to pay an
extra $1.50 per ticket, but it's worth it. Large chain theaters with stadium seating are
scattered throughout the city, including several in the Times Square and Union Sq areas.
In summer free outdoor screenings blossom throughout the city on rooftops and in park
spaces.
