Midtown
The classic NYC fantasy - shiny skyscrapers, teeming mobs of worker bees, Fifth Ave
store windows, taxi traffic - and some of the city's most popular attractions can be found
here. Long ago when print ruled and newspaper and magazines were the cultural cur-
rency of the day, Midtown was actually also the literary district - the prime movers and
shakers used to meet at the Algonquin Hotel. Major media companies such as the New
York Times are still based here.

the modern art scene, MoMA's booty makes many other collections look, well, endear-
ing. You'll find more A-listers here than at an Oscars after party: Van Gogh, Matisse, Pi-
casso, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rothko, Pollock and Bourgeois. Since its founding in 1929,
the museum has amassed over 150,000 artworks, documenting the emerging creative
ideas and movements of the late 19th century through to those that dominate today. For
art buffs, it's Valhalla. For the uninitiated, it's a thrilling crash course in all that is beauti-
ful and addictive about art.
