B&Bs & Inns
These accommodations vary from small, comfy houses with shared bathrooms (least ex-
pensive) to romantic, antique-filled historic homes and mansions with private baths (most
expensive). Those focusing on upscale romance may discourage children. Also, inns and
B&Bs often require a minimum stay of two or three days on weekends, and reservations
are essential. Always call ahead to confirm policies (ie regarding kids, pets, smoking) and
bathroom arrangements.

Camping
Campsites at national and state parks typically come in three types:
Primitive Free to $10 per night, no facilities.
Basic $10 to $20, with toilets, drinking water, fire pits and picnic tables.
Developed $20 to $45, with more amenities such as showers, barbecue grills, RV sites
with hookups etc.
Make reservations for national parks and other federal lands through Recreation.gov (
518-885-3639, 877-444-6777; www.recreation.gov ) . Camping is usually limited to 14 days
and can be reserved up to six months in advance. For some state park campgrounds, you
can make bookings through Reserve America ( www.reserveamerica.com ) .
Most privately owned campgrounds are geared to RVs (motor homes), but will also
have a small section available for tent campers. Expect lots of amenities, like swimming
