Sights & Activities
Parkland blankets the county. Bayside
Peninsula State Park
is the largest, with bluffside
hiking and biking trails and Nicolet Beach for swimming, kayaking and sailing (equip-
ment rentals available on site). In winter, cross-country skiers and snowshoers take over
the trails. On the lake side, secluded
Newport State Park
offers trails, backcountry
camping and solitude.
Whitefish Dunes State Park
has sandscapes and a wide beach
(beware of riptides). Adjacent
Cave Point Park
is known for its sea caves and kayaking.

Sleeping & Eating
The bay side has the most lodgings. Prices listed are for July and August, the peak sea-
son; many places have minimum-stay requirements. Local restaurants often host a 'fish
boil,' a regional specialty started by Scandinavian lumberjacks, in which whitefish, pota-
toes and onions are cooked in a fiery cauldron. Finish with Door's famous cherry pie.
