southwest of Chillicothe and 4 miles northwest of Locust Grove, is perhaps the most cap-
tivating site of all. The giant uncoiling snake stretches over a quarter of a mile and is the
largest effigy mound in the USA.

Dayton & Yellow Springs
Dayton has the aviation sights, but little Yellow Springs (18 miles northeast on US 68)
has much more to offer in terms of accommodations and places to eat.

National Museum of the US Air Force MUSEUM

Located at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, 6 miles northeast of Dayton, the
huuuuge museum has everything from a Wright Brothers 1909 Flyer to a Sopwith Camel
(WWI biplane) and the 'Little Boy' atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The hangars
hold miles of planes, rockets and aviation machines. Download the audio tour from the
website before arriving. Plan on three or more hours here.
Wright Cycle Company HISTORIC SITE
( 937-225-7705; www.nps.gov/daav ; 16 S Williams St, Dayton; 8:30am-5pm) Browse
exhibits in the original building where Wilbur and Orville developed bikes and aviation
ideas.
Huffman Prairie Flying Field HISTORIC SITE
(Gate 16A off Rte 444, Dayton; 8am-6pm Thu-Tue) This peaceful patch of grass
looks much as it did in 1904 when the Wright Brothers tested aircraft here. A one-mile
walking trail loops around, marked with history-explaining placards. It's a 15-minute
drive from the Air Force museum.
