Chicago
Loving Chicago is 'like loving a woman with a broken nose: you may well find lovelier
lovelies, but never a lovely so real.' Writer Nelson Algren summed it up well in Chica-
go: City on the Make . There's something about this cloud-scraping city that bewitches.
Well, maybe not during the six-month winter, when the 'Windy City' gets slapped by
snowy blasts; however, come May, when the weather warms and everyone dashes for the
outdoor festivals, ballparks, lakefront beaches and beer gardens - ah, nowhere tops Ch-
icago (literally: some of the world's tallest buildings are here).
Beyond its mighty architecture, Chicago is a city of Mexican, Polish, Vietnamese and
other ethnic neighborhoods in which to wander. It's a city of blues, jazz and rock clubs
any night of the week. And it's a chowhound's town, where the queues for hot dogs equal
those at North America's top restaurants.
Forgive us, but it has to be said: the Windy City will blow you away with its low-key,
cultured awesomeness.
