Toilets
Haight-Ashbury and the Mission District don't have many public toilets - you may
have to buy coffee to access locked customer-only bathrooms.
Citywide Self-cleaning, coin-operated outdoor kiosk commodes cost 25ยข; there are 25
citywide, mostly located in North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf and Downtown. Toilet paper
isn't always available.
Downtown Clean toilets and baby-changing tables can be found in the Westfield Centre
mall ( Click here ) .
Civic Center The San Francisco Main Library ( Click here ) has restrooms, as do public
library branches and parks throughout the city.
Dos & Don'ts
Fashion Casual is the norm, but pretty much anything goes fashion-wise in San Francisco, from bird costumes to glitter
thongs. But there is one rule: don't stare.
Food Vegans, pescatarians and allergies are accommodated at many restaurants - but confirm when you call for reserva-
tions so the chef can adjust recipes and use separate utensils as needed. Don't be shy about asking about food sourcing -
many restaurants are proud to serve local, organic, humane, sustainable fare.
Politics Leftist politics are mainstream in San Francisco, as is friendly debate. Don't be shy about sharing your views,
and do hear out others.
