Musical prayers are answered in a 1914 California Craftsman landmark with heavenly
acoustics. The 40ft roof is regularly raised by shows such as Preservation Hall Jazz Band
jamming with Nick Lowe, Polyphonic Spree's full-choir ruckus and Radiohead's OK
Computer lipsynched by an all-star drag revue. Many shows are all-ages, except when
comedians like W Kamau Bell test edgy material. (

Top Tip
Mission Street Smarts
Bars and restaurants make Mission a key nightlife destination, but it's not always the safest area to walk alone at
night. Recruit a friend and be alert in the Mission east of Valencia, especially around 19th St gang-turf boundar-
ies. Don't bring the bling - this isn't LA - or dawdle around BART stations. You should be fine in the daytime,
but don't leave items like laptops and phones unattended at cafes.

Funny name, because there isn't much to speak of upstairs in this vintage 1935 honky-
tonk with crowd-favorite shows of dancehall dub DJs, live sweater funk, offbeat indie
bands and Bombshell Betty Burlesque. Come any night for $2 pints from 5pm to 9pm at
the chilled downstairs bar (admission free). (
