TOP LEFT This site atop a mountain in
western Virginia has sweeping views, but is
exposed to weather on the north and west.
UPPER RIGHT Restored cabin on the site
of an old schoolhouse near Gratz, Kentucky.
ABOVE LEFT The cabin replaced a modern
frame house that was to the left. It is above
a spring-fed pond near Boonesville, Virginia.
Of oak logs, with copper roof, stone and
cedar gable siding with no paint, this cabin
was designed and built to be as low-
maintenance as possible.
LOWER RIGHT Upper porch view of old
fields and woods above the Hardware River
in central Virginia. This is a new cabin of
white pine logs.
