The jelly gods smiled down on us, and we were saved by a stroke
of good fortune. That year there just happened to be a tremendous
abundance of beautiful, big sea nettles all along the northern Cali-
fornia and Oregon coast. Dave Wrobel, the aquarist responsible for
the jelly exhibits, took the boat out and collected enough adult sea net-
tles to fill the new tank. When he was through, it looked awesome,
with some fifty pulsing, flaming-orange jellies silhouetted against the
wall of translucent blue. The original dream had become a reality.
