At first the slower-swimming barracuda were intimidated at feeding
times by the fast, aggressive tuna and bonito, but they eventually learned
an e¤ective food-grabbing technique of their own and from then on
had no trouble getting what they needed. As for the mola, it had been
thoroughly trained to come to the side of its holding tank to be hand-
fed. In its new home, it remembered its training well and adapted
quickly to its new surroundings.
We were now counting the days until the grand opening and we could
all feel a mounting tension. One last worry remained, for which we
feared there might be no solution. Being aware of the unpredictable
availability of jellies in the wild, we'd planned well in advance to raise
our own sea nettles for the new huge kreisel tank. Yet the ones we were
growing were still rather small. With time, of course, they would fill
the tank, but we were disappointed that the display might be less than
spectacular on opening day.
