Krua Apsorn
$$
THAI
This homey dining room is a favourite of members of the Thai royal family, and back in
2006 it was recognised as Bangkok's Best Restaurant by the
Bangkok Post
. Must-eat
dishes include mussels fried with fresh herbs, the decadent crab fried in yellow chilli oil
and the tortilla Española-like crab omelette.

Jay Fai
$$
You wouldn't think so by looking at her bare-bones dining room, but Jay Fai is known far
and wide for serving Bangkok's most expensive
pàt kêe mow
(drunkard's noodles - wide
rice noodles fried with seafood and Thai herbs). Jay Fai doesn't have a roman-script sign,
but is located directly across Th Mahachai from a 7-Eleven.

Shoshana
$
ISRAELI
One of Khao San's longest-running Israeli restaurants, Shoshana resembles your grandpar-
ents' living room, right down to the tacky wall art and plastic placemats. The 'I heart
Shoshana' T-shirts worn by the wait staff may be a hopelessly optimistic description of em-
ployee morale, but the gut-filling chips-felafel-and-hummus plates leave nothing to be de-
sired.
