Arriving in Bangkok
Air
Suvarnabhumi International Airport
Just about everybody flying to Bangkok comes through Suvarnabhumi International
Airport ( 0 2132 1888; www.bangkokairportonline.com ) , located 25km east of the city centre. Pro-
nounced su ̀ ·wan·na ́ ·poom , the airport is accessible by taxi and public transport - including
the Airport Rail Link ( www.bangkokairporttrain.com ) - and estimated transit time to most parts
of Bangkok is approximately 30 to 45 minutes. A taxi to central Bangkok will run about
300B. The unofficial website has real-time details of airport arrivals and departures. Left-
luggage facilities are available on level 2, beside the helpful Tourism Authority of Thailand
office.
Don Muang Airport
Bangkok's former international airport, Don Muang (DMK; 0 2535 1111;
www.donmuangairportonline.com ) , has been downgraded to the city's de facto low-cost airport. It's
located about 20km north of the city centre; slow buses make the trip into town, but taxi is
the most efficient way to get to/from the airport, and to central Bangkok should cost around
200B.
Train
Hualamphong Train Station ( 0 2220 4334, nationwide call centre 1690; www.railway.co.th ; off Th Phra
Ram IV) is the city's main train terminal, and is linked to the the MRT (metro) stop at Hua
Lamphong.
