Saxophone Pub & Restaurant
After all these years, Saxophone ( www.saxophonepub.com ; 3/8 Th Phayathai; 7.30pm-1.30am;
Victory Monument exit 2) remains Bangkok's premier live-music venue - a dark, intim-
ate space where you can pull up a chair just a few metres away from the band and see
their every bead of sweat.
Sky Train Jazz Club
The Sky Train Jazz Club (cnr Th Rang Nam & Th Phayathai; 5pm-2am; Victory Monument
exit 2) is more like the rooftop of your stoner buddy's flat than any jazz club we've
ever been to. But that's what makes it so fun. To find it, look for the sign and proceed
up the graffiti-covered stairway until you reach the roof.
Mallika Restaurant
Visit Mallika (21/36 Th Rang Nam; mains 130-550B; 10am-10pm; ; Victory Monument exit 2)
for a taste of Thailand's southern provinces. The menu spans the region with spicy
hits such as kôo·a glîng (here called 'southern-style stir fry') or gaang sôm (a
turmeric-laden seafood soup). Prices are slightly higher than elsewhere, but you're
paying for quality.
