Another feature of the memory model presented here is that information proc-
essing operations are measured in seconds and bits. The seconds tell how informa-
tion processing operations change over time, and the bits represent the quantity of
information processed. The authors of this concept found that the human memory
system is capable of processing between 10 9 and 10 11 bits of information per sec-
ond. Stimuli reaching human senses through all sensory channels, within which
some 10 7 bit/s are processed, are sent to a kind of store, directly connected to
memory. The stimuli sent to short-term memory fade away or end up in long-term
memory, from which they can return to the store.
The results of the operation of the above models can be seen in applications of
cognitive informatics and neural informatics models, in which the LTM (long-
term memory) model plays an important role:
using the LTM model for subconscious processes;
the operation of long-term memory during sleep;
the operating mechanism of the LTM model during sleep;
the operation of the LTM model with reference to the OAR model;
the role of the visual function and the perception function (including daydream
creation) in the LTM model.
The above formal models of the cognitive approach to data analysis and inter-
pretation are the result of work conducted to build the correct system architecture
presented in cognitive informatics subjects.
