In-Depth Information
has been shown to rescue the effects of bisphosphonate-mediated inhibition on
cellular signaling (Andela et al. 2003 ), thereby providing a mechanism to demon-
strate whether the bisphosphonates utilized the mevalonate pathway in the inhibi-
tion of secreted VEGF in retina. In our result, increased [ 3 H]taurine uptake by
pretreatment of alendronate and pamidronate was significantly reduced by GGOH
in TR-iBRB cells under high glucose condition (Fig. 7.3 ).

Conclusion
In conclusion, taurine transport through the iBRB under high glucose condition can
be regulated by bisphosphonates via mevalonate pathway. Therefore, we suggest
that bisphosphonates could have the beneficial effects on DR by regulation of
taurine contents in retina.
