Top 30 Attraction 8 Musée d'Orsay Must See MUST SEE!
The Louvre is not the only fantastic museum in Paris. The Musee d'Orsay has the largest
collection of paintings, sculptures, and decorative objects produced between 1848 and 1914.
It is one of the world's best and most visited museums, showcasing many of the most re-
markable works of the early modern era, including works by Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec,
Monet, Degas, Gauguin and others.
The Museum building was originally the Gare d'Orsay railway station, finished in time for
the 1900 French world exhibition.
By 1939 the station's short platforms had become unsuitable for the longer trains. The build-
ing has been used for different purposes and finally became a museum in 1986 after an ex-
tensive ten-year phase of planning and construction.
The Orsay Museum is housed in a former Train Station on the left bank of the River Seine
