In-Depth Information
One of the many sculptures in the Tuileries Garden
The garden was originally built in 1564 as a part of the Royal Palace. It was partially
opened to the public in 1667 and finally became a public park just after the French Revolu-
tion.
The Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel is a triumphal arch on the site of the former Tuileries
Palace. It only took two years to build this Arc in honor of the Grand Army of Napoleon
Bonaparte, compared to the 30 years invested in building the nearby, more famous Arc de
Triomphe de l'Étoile.
