Top 30 Attraction 3 Arc de Triomphe MUST SEE!
This is one of the top three attractions and landmarks in Paris next to the Eiffel Tower and
the Louvre. It stands in the center of the Place Charles de Gaulle and marks the western end
of the famous Champs-Élysées Boulevard.
This monument honors those who fought for the Revolutionary cause and who died for
France in the Napoleonic Wars. The names of all French victories and generals are inscribed
on its inner and outer surfaces. The construction started in 1806 as ordered by the Emperor
Napoleon and was completed after as many as 30 years of construction in 1836.
The Arch is now also a memorial to those who died in the First and Second World Wars and
the Armistice Day parade takes place here, with the laying of wreaths at the Tomb of the
Unknown Soldier under the Arch. If you happen to be in Paris on the 11 th of November, you
really should not miss this splendid, but moving, occasion.
