Rodin decided to donate all of his work to the French Government, but under the condition
that all his work would be open to the public.
The Government therefore bought the former Hotel Biron in 1911 and turned it into a mu-
seum, which opened in 1919, two years after Rodin died.
The area contains a large garden where many of his sculptures are displayed and a museum,
built in the old and wonderful Hôtel Biron.
The whole area stretches over three hectares and is divided into a large ornamental garden
to the south of the Hôtel Biron and a rose garden to the north.
