Ordu lies on the coast in the
Black Sea region surrounded by
hazelnut orchards and is a sleepy
holiday resort at most times of the
year, except in September when it
bursts into life for the Golden
Hazelnut Festival. See p. 186.
Side is a gorgeous town full of
character. It sits, primarily,
within historic city walls that
stand on a headland overlooking
the sea. Along with glorious
sandy beaches, it offers one of
the most memorable sights along
the Mediterranean coast - a
massive Hellenistic theatre and
its Temple of Apollo, a landmark
attraction. See p. 157.
Sinop, famous for being the
birthplace of Sinope, the mytho-
logical leader of the Amazon
warriors, stands in a little natural
harbour with rows of fishing and
leisure boats. It has some good
beaches and forest areas to enjoy.

Tekirdag lies on the banks of
the Sea of Marmara in the
Marmara region. It is famous for
its seemingly endless fields of
bright yellow sunflowers that
your children will love to be
photographed with. There are
also some interesting Ottoman
buildings and mosques, and long
sandy beaches to visit. See p. 96.
Trabzon is one of the busiest and
most historic coastal cities in the
Black Sea region. It offers every
amenity for holidaying families,
including Trabzon Castle,
mosques and museums such as
the great Aya Sofya (Haghia
Sophia) and landmarks like the
Za g nos Bridge. See p. 186.
