In-Depth Information
Figure7.1. JOSM is the front end for manual OpenStreetMap data attribution
and editing.
Next you (the fieldworker) can download the existing data of the area
covered by the traces. Go to the File menu and click \download from OSM
server..." and enter:
minlat = 49.00 minlon = 11.90
maxlat = 49.12 maxlon = 12.15
This bounding box will download about 7 MB and you should see a very
colorful screen display after a few minutes (see Figure 7.2). What you see is
the completed work of other field workers in this area. Possibly the size of
the bounds needs to be iterated, since the (growing) amount of data varies
for different regions. Before doing anything else, you should save the data
as an .osm file like 3
../OSM.compiler/deliveries/RGB-NW-JOSM.osm
../OSM.compiler/deliveries/<yourProject>-JOSM.osm
With JOSM you can look at the traces, zoom to each point and visually
compare the traces against existing streets. Each node of a road indicates
a maneuver point or a change of direction (shape point). The visual tool
3 Add -JOSM to the file name as a reference for another file produced on page 89.
