fixing any defect there could be many possibilities. If the application is licensed and
deployed inside the firewall, then if you have purchased support for the application
from the software vendor, either the reported defect will be fixed by the vendor or
they may suggest a work-around solution. If it is fixed, then the vendor will send a
patch and you will have to apply the patch. If the application is a hosted application
by the vendor, then they will apply the patch themselves.
..12 Test Case Prioritization
Testing involves testing all functionality of the application as per test coverage. This
includes trivial functionality of the application to the most important functionality
of the application. Therefore it makes sense to prioritize your testing so that impor-
tant functions are tested first and trivial functionality is tested later.
..1. Ad Hoc Testing
Many times there is not much time available to make comprehensive planning for
testing. This is true in an environment where quick new releases are the norm and
everybody is pressed for time. Then, in other cases, there are smaller testing projects
that may not require elaborate planning and have to be delivered quickly so that
the team can move on to some bigger projects. In such situations ad hoc project
planning can be employed. But ad hoc testing should be done only by people who
are well versed in the application. In cases when software testing is outsourced and
the team there is new for testing this application, ad hoc testing should never be
employed.
