The drivers for software services are low cost, better quality, and have a mature
delivery model. Test managers from service providers are always eager to provide
these values to their customers.
When it comes to delivering goods, the test manager banks heavily on the deliv-
ery model. He will have to make sure that the transition of the project happens
smoothly. He will have to resort to a safe transition using techniques like going for
a pilot project and knowledge transfer to his team from the existing team that was
working on that project. He will have to make a plan to train his offshore staff to
make them understand what customer expectations are and what kind of quality is
expected on their assignments. He will have to make sure that the delivery model is
foolproof and that there will not be any hiccups down the road.
he test manager's role is double-edged. He has to be strong technically to
deliver the goods and have the will have to take care of bottlenecks involved in
offshoring the project.
2.. Performance Testing
Most of the testing areas and types of testing are basically related to functional
and usability testing. But with the advent of Internet, things have changed. There
are Web sites that carry the latest business, technology, social, and current affairs
news and information. Some other Web sites act as social networking portals where
people meet and exchange ideas through multimedia, documents, and other kinds
of information. There are other sites that act as business exchange portals. Then
there are sites that allow people to create and host blogs on their sites. Then there
are sites that provide free e-mail service to their users. Some other users access these
sites to search the Internet for information.
These kinds of sites are accessed by millions of users from all around the
world. At any point in time millions of users will be accessing the site simultane-
ously. Due to the huge load on these sites created by millions of users accessing
the site concurrently, performance issues arise. Many users may not be able to
access the site within an acceptable time limit due to excessive load on the serv-
ers. Many users may not get access to the site at all due to the same reasons. Some
other users may experience performance issues in accessing some particular pages
of the Web site.
The profitability of these sites depends on the traffic (number of users access-
ing the sites) the sites generate. They provide most of the content and services on
