One solution could be to organize testing based on these practices as is tradition-
ally done. So we can have one CoE for Oracle applications and one CoE for SAP. But
we can see that there will be duplication of resources. For instance, we will have a “CoE
for QTP automation for Oracle practice” and another “QTP automation CoE for
SAP.” Instead we can just have one CoE for QTP automation, which will serve both
Oracle applications practice and SAP practice. In fact it will provide flexibility in team
management. When the company has more projects on Oracle Application, more
automation engineers will be assigned to these projects, and if there are more projects
on SAP, then more automation engineers will be assigned to these SAP projects.
There is one more dimension to it: How can we integrate activities being per-
formed at the testing organization with the activities being carried out at the orga-
nization that is engaged in software development?
It can be done by linking the independent test project closely with the develop-
ment project.
