transitioning of the project. They worked with the existing customer's project team
to take charge. They first learned all aspects of the project from the internal team.
They also started transferring the knowledge to the offshore team. In the 3-month
pilot, they took three applications to successfully transition to the offshore team.
Once the pilot was successful, the full-capacity offshore team took charge. They
took the remaining projects from the customer's internal team and started deliv-
ering on a full scale. The customer benefited immensely from the service provid-
er's mature methodology, which was based on CMMI guidelines, along with the
knowledge gained in executing similar projects in the past. This resulted in better
quality of the software applications. Due to the centralized testing service, all proj-
ects started having uniform quality. Due to lower costs at the offshore location,
costs were reduced substantially.
11.6.6
New Model Implementation Details
The service provider built a dedicated 40-person team to operate within enter-
prise and project level SLAs. For this engagement, the service provider estab-
lished well-defined software testing processes and developed process road maps,
estimation models, automation standards, and so on. The final outcome was that
postproduction defects got reduced through structured requirements analysis and
full traceability to test cases. The regression test cycle schedule got reduced by
automating test cases using QTP. Increased visibility to testing and development
activities was achieved through comprehensive metrics collection and reporting
(see Table 11.4).
11.6 .7 Pilot Project Details
The service provider's team validated and fine-tuned the process model to suit the
requirements of the customer in the pilot. The team learned to use the automation
tool on specific tasks in the project. They introduced standard metrics available
