In-Depth Information
the bill never exceeded $90. I also explained that the bill should have been on
the lower side, as my electricity consumption should have been less because it
was winter and in the winter I stop using ceiling fans and window coolers. I also
do not use a water heater. In effect, in winter I use electricity only for lighting
and running some gadgets like the television, computer, and refrigerator. The
call center executive checked my records and then told me to check the earthing
(earthing or grounding is a mechanism to prevent accessible parts from acquir-
ing a dangerous voltage in the event of a failure of electrical insulation). There is
an indicator bulb provided on the electricity meter, and if it is glowing, then I
have an earthing problem. Due to faulty earthing, electricity is passing and get-
ting consumed through the circuit even when no electricity is being consumed
purposely. I checked the earthing indicator and found that it was glowing. This
meant that I had an earthing problem. The call center executive also told me
that it is the consumer's responsibility to get it fixed and that the electricity dis-
tribution company does not have any responsibility in such cases. I immediately
checked with a local electrician and made an appointment. He came and checked
my electricity connections. He found that the earthing was indeed faulty. He
suggested removal of earthing wires from places in the house wherever they were
faulty. So he removed those wires. After that the earthing problem was solved.
Now the indicator was not glowing.
I was now very much satisfied.
Let us analyze the whole episode. Why did I immediately get provoked
when I received the bill of $400? It is because I had solid information that the
bill should be $80 or below. When it came in at $400, I had a reason to be
concerned. This knowledge came from information from previous bills. The
call center executive could pinpoint the cause of the problem from seeing my
previous bills and also common problems that had happened to other consum-
ers in the area.
Even though this case study is not related to software testing at all, it shows the
importance of reports. From even a simple report, you can research any problem
area related to the report and get it fixed.
..2 Test Report
The test report is the primary work deliverable from the testing execution phase
( Figure 8.1) . It disseminates the information from the test execution phase that
is needed for project managers, as well as the stakeholders, to make further
