St. Stephen's Green. Photo by William Murphy
Step into Ireland's best known Victorian park with an extensive perimeter fence and shrub
planting, as well as spectacular summer and spring Victorian bedding. The herbaceous bor-
der also provides colour from early spring to late autumn. The park has over 3.5 km of
accessible pathways. The waterfalls and Pulham rock work on the western side should not
be missed as well as the ornamental lake which provides home for waterfowl and a garden
for the visually impaired.
This park was enclosed in 1664 and around the park Georgian buildings of neo classical
architecture and design were constructed. These served as residences for the affluent soci-
ety of the bygone glorious years. These are marks of a grandiose era where structures are
stately, uniformed and follow symmetrical patterns. Doors of this residences are painted
in lively colors which complements the blooms and foliage of St. Stephen's Green. Today,
people troop to the green to sit down and enjoy the relaxing scenery.
