Good Intentions and Extinction Risks
Biological invasions have become a major cause of extinction, extirpation,
and genetic modification, especially in insular environments. A category
of alien species that we have not yet considered includes biological con-
trol agents that are introduced not only deliberately, but also because of
the likelihood that they will greatly reduce the population of a target
species. In the next chapter, we shall turn our attention to these species
and the evolutionary issues they present.
