Local Life
Hongkou
Originally the American Settlement and later the
Japanese district, Hongkou is decidedly working
class today, with many residents originating from
nearby provinces such as Anhui and Jiangsu. It's
somewhat rundown and grittier than other areas of
Shanghai, but the lack of polish means there's plenty
of interesting street life and older buildings waiting for discovery.
Getting There
Hongkou is located north of the
Bund.
Metro
North Sichuan Rd
(line 10) is the closest station.
