Nanjing Rd; 10am-10pm) , which anchors the eastern end of the pedestrian strip. While
the shopping is nothing to crow about, there are some fabulous eating options here,
which are always bustling at mealtimes. Head to the basement for snacks.
Yunhong Chopsticks Shop
One-stop chopstick shopping is sorted at this busy store ( 387 E Nanjing Rd; 10am-10pm)
. Styles range from basic wooden models for so-so friends back home to solid silver
sets (the precious metal dispels toxins) for your current crush.
China's Gap
Metersbonwe ( 387 E Nanjing Rd; 10am-10pm) has over 2000 retail outlets throughout
the country. For those who want a peek at China's youth fashions - the brand is often
compared to Gap and Zara - Shanghai's flagship store is the place to start.
Traditional Art
Duo Yun Xuan ( 422 E Nanjing Rd; 9.30am-9.30pm) is a traditional-looking building
(look for the two enormous calligraphy brushes outside) with an excellent selection
of art and calligraphy supplies. The 2nd floor is one of the best places for art topics,
while the 3rd floor houses antiques and some excellent calligraphy and brush-paint-
ing galleries.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Opened in 1882, Cai Tong De ( 450 E Nanjing Rd; 9am-10pm) is one of the oldest and
most famous traditional pharmacies in Shanghai. There's a clinic and herbal phar-
macy on the top floor (no English), while the ground floor carries speciality items
such as ginseng, caterpillar fungus and acupuncture supplies.
