Pudong International Airport
Pudong International Airport (PVG; flight info 96990; www.shairport.com ) is 30km southeast of
Shanghai, and handles all international flights. There are four ways to get from the airport
to the city: Maglev train, taxi, metro and bus.
The quickest way into the city is on the bullet-fast Maglev (with same-day air ticket ¥40;
6.45am-9.40pm) , which takes just eight minutes to Pudong and is a considerable time-saver.
Once you arrive at the terminus (Longyang Rd), you will need to transfer to metro line 2 or
take a taxi the rest of the way. If you go by taxi, be sure to look for the meter when you get
in the car; if the counter is hidden by a receipt, switch cabs. You should pay ¥40 to ¥60 to
downtown Shanghai (People's Sq).
A taxi ride from the airport to central Shanghai will cost around ¥160 and take about an
hour. Take a cab from the official taxi rank and make sure the meter is visible when you get
in.
Metro line 2 runs to central Shanghai and is the cheapest way to get to town (¥7 to
People's Sq, 75 minutes). About halfway through your trip, you will need to switch trains
(but not metro lines) at Guanglan Rd in Pudong. Service to the airport runs from 6.30am to
9pm. If you have an evening departure, you must be at Guanglan Rd by 9pm or you will
miss the last metro to the airport.
Buses run from the airport, taking between 60 and 90 minutes to reach their destinations
in central Shanghai. Buses leave the airport from 6.30am to 11pm; they go to the airport
from 5.30am to 9.30pm (bus 1 runs till 11pm). The most useful buses are airport bus 1
(¥30), which links Pudong International Airport with Hongqiao Airport, and airport bus 2
(¥22), which links Pudong International Airport with the Airport City Terminal, east of
Jing'an Temple.
