Former British Consulate
The original
British Consulate
was one of the first foreign buildings to go up in Shanghai
in 1852, though it was destroyed in a fire and replaced with the current structure in 1873.
Also within the grounds are the former
Consul's Residence
(1884) and several century-
old magnolia trees.

There are three surviving heritage buildings on S Suzhou Rd, including the former
Shang-
hai Rowing Club
(1905) at No 76, the
Church Apartments
(1899) at No 79, and the
Romanesque-style
Union Church
(1886) at No 107, which was recently renovated after
being damaged in a fire.
China Baptist Publication Building
Yuanmingyuan Rd was once home to several godowns - buildings that served as both
warehouses and office space. Such buildings were shared by traders and missionaries,
such as the 1932
China Baptist Publication Society
, whose Gothamesque offices at No
187 were designed by the prolific Ladislaus Hudec.
