Step Five:
So these are the keepers from the shoot,
but I like to narrow things down even
further to just the ones I want my client to
see. To get down to the “best of the best,”
I select all the images with a particular pose,
then I try to just find the best shots of that
pose. I have 17 photos total in my Picks
collection (out of the 67 that I shot), but
I want to get it down to just eight or nine
of the very best shots. Here, I selected nine
photos that all have a similar pose, then
pressed the letter N to enter Survey mode,
which makes narrowing things down much
easier. I usually do the process of elimina-
tion at this point, starting up at the top
left. I look at the shot and ask myself
“Is this one of the best here?” If not, I move
my cursor over the photo and an X ap-
pears in the bottom-right corner (as seen
here). Click that X and the photo is taken
out of contention (it's not deleted, just
removed from this screen to help you
narrow things down).
Step Six:
Here I narrowed it down to just the best
four out of the nine. Now click on each
photo, then press the P key to mark them
as Picks (when you created your Picks
collection, it automatically removed all
the Picks flags, so now you can use them
again). When you're done, press G to re-
turn to the normal Grid view, pick a group
of the next pose, and do the same thing
until you've gone through your entire Picks
collection. Now, just turn on the Picks Flag
filter (like we did in Step Four) and your
very best shots are what you see onscreen.
Select all these shots, and then create an-
other new collection, name it “Selects,” and
save it in your Beauty Headshot collection
set (as shown here). Now, those are the
ones the client will actually get to see (and
the only ones you're going to work on
from here on out).
