In-Depth Information
Manoa
ManoaValleyInn Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this historic 1915 Gothic
bed-and-breakfast offers a very different Honolulu vacation. Completely off the tourist trail,
it's an oasis of peace and tranquility, nestled on a quiet residential street near the University
of Hawaii. It offers a charming venture into the past, with rooms filled with antiques, old-
fashioned rose wallpaper, and king-size koa-wood beds. The two top-floor rooms share a full
bathroom; the others have private bathrooms. It's about a 20-minute drive to Waikiki Beach,
so this is not a good fit for people wanting easy beach access. But if you seek a journey into
Hawaii's past, along with a stay in a charming bed-and-breakfast, you'll love it here.

Kahala
KahalaHotel&Resort ★★★ In one of Oahu's most prestigious residential areas, the Kahala
offers the peace and serenity of a neighbor-island vacation, but with the conveniences of
Waikiki just a 10-minute drive away. The decor of the rooms resembles the stylish interiors of
most of the multimillion-dollar homes in the surrounding Kahala area, and features custom-
designed wall-to-wall carpeting, tropical ceiling fans, retro Island artwork, and two- or four-
poster beds with comfy Stearns & Foster pillow-top mattresses made up with Egyptian-cotton
linens. The plantation decor is augmented with state-of-the-art technology, including high-
speed wireless Internet, 40-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod or MP3 player hookups, and cordless
phones.
The lush grounds include an 800-foot crescent-shaped beach and a 26,000-square-foot la-
goon (home to two bottle-nosed dolphins, sea turtles, and tropical fish). Other extras that
make this property outstanding: Hawaiian cultural programs, shuttle service to Waikiki and
major shopping centers, free scuba lessons in the pool, daily dolphin-education talks by a
trainer from Sea Life Park, and a great year-round children's program. A must-do indulgence
is the fabulous spa, which features treatments in former guest rooms redesigned for individu-
alized massages, body scrubs, rubs, wraps, and other pampering therapies.
