A ROOM FOR everyone
Among the largest hotel chains in Waikiki, Outrigger and Ohana hotels offer excellent accom-
modations across the board. The Outrigger properties are more resort-oriented, with amenit-
ies like concierge service, children's programs, and a variety of restaurants and shops. You'll be
comfortable at any of its outposts: Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach , Outrigger Reef on the
Beach , and Outrigger Waikiki Shore Resort Condo . There are plenty of packages available
for these properties. Ask about other deals, like a fifth night free, discount rates for seniors over
50, family plans (children 17 and under stay free in parent's room using existing bedding), even
romance and honeymoon packages. To inquire about current offerings and make reservations
at any of the Outrigger properties throughout the islands, contact Outrigger Hotels & Resorts
( www.outrigger.com ; & 800/OUTRIGGER or 808/942-7722).
The Ohana Hotels offer clean, dependable, moderately priced, and well-appointed rooms in
central locations. The chain's price structure is based entirely on location, room size, and
amenities. Check the website, where “best available rates” start at $79 (a true bargain in
Waikiki!). Ohana also offers other deals, including air and car-rental packages; for information,
contact Ohana Hotels & Resorts ( www.ohanahotels.com ; & 800/462-6262 ).
VERY EXPENSIVE
Halekulani ★★★ Here's the ultimate heavenly Hawaii vacation. Halekulani translates as
“house befitting heaven”—an apt description of this luxury resort spread over 5 acres of prime
Waikiki beachfront. Its five buildings are connected by open courtyards and lush, tropical gar-
dens. Upon arrival, you're immediately greeted and escorted to your room, where registration
is handled in comfort and privacy. About 90% of the rooms face the ocean, and they're big
(averaging 620 sq. ft.), each with a separate sitting area and a large, furnished lanai. Each bath-
room features a deep soaking tub, a separate glassed-in shower, and a marble basin. Recent
renovations to this luxury property include total refurbishment of the rooms, new entertain-
ment centers with DVD players, a bedside control panel, wireless Internet service, and a new
spa.
Other perks include complimentary tickets to any or all of the following: Iolani Palace, the
Bishop Museum, the Contemporary Museum and the Honolulu Academy of Arts, and the
Honolulu Symphony. A great children's program is offered during holidays. The hotel's res-
taurants (including La Mer; and Orchids) are outstanding, and the HouseWithoutaKey ★★

tainment. You can't find a better location on Waikiki Beach or a more luxurious hotel.
