Finally “Activities and Assessment” and a CD provide instructions for laboratory
experiments and assessment tasks for all described topics.
In the lectures according to “Chemical Storylines,” appropriate references to the
scientific information and corresponding experiments in the topic of Chemical
Ideas are given. These references ensure that students will also recognize and
learn the structure and ideas of chemistry.
The advanced lessons of the Storylines on the “Advanced Level” may allow this
way after students have had a 2-year chemistry introductory on the “ordinary level.”
All additional information are recognizable more easily and handled better by
students than it is possible in the curriculum “ChemCom,” which is designed for
beginning instruction in chemistry.
Chemistry in Context: Based on Anglo-American curricula as “Chemistry in the
Community” [ 17 ], Salters Advanced Chemistry [ 18 ], and also “Chemistry in
Context” [ 20 ], a working group around Parchmann, Ralle, and Demuth [ 21 ]
developed a German written curriculum called “Chemie im Kontext” [ 22 ]. This
curriculum contains similar contexts and stories as in “Chemical Storylines” [ 18 ].
The material is, however, contained in only one topic: the first part shows about 20
stories (100 pages), the second part of the textbook shows the scientific chemistry
