This well-curated photography museum stages large-scale, temporary exhibitions by inter-
national artists. Themes might include portraiture, nature or regional photography. The
gallery space spreads over several floors of a historic home and spills into a tiny summer
house in the garden. There's a terrific little library, too. ( www.huismarseille.nl ; Keizersgracht 401;

This is a very special place, crammed with pianolas from the early 1900s, as well as
nearly 20,000 music rolls. Every month (except July and August) player-piano concerts
are held, featuring anything from Mozart to Fats Waller and rare classical or jazz tunes
composed especially for the instrument. The curator gives demonstrations with great zest.

The world's first museum of fluorescence is a hippie-trippy treat. Even if you didn't eat a
space cake before arriving, you're gonna feel like it, as grey-ponytailed artist and owner
Nick Padalino takes you to his shop's basement and shows you all kinds of glow-in-the-
dark objects, from psychedelic sculptures to luminescent rocks. Allow a good hour for the
