Get Hip on Haarlemmerdijk
The street Haarlemmerdijk buzzes with stylish shops and lots of places to snack or
unwind over a drink. It is fast becoming a culinary destination, not just for restaur-
ants but for its slew of gourmet provisions and kitchen shops. Keep an eye out for
chocolatiers, cookbook vendors and tea emporiums among the retailers.
Relax at De Kat in de Wijngaert
A brown cafe that exudes overwhelming gezelligheid , De Kat in de Wijngaert (
620 45 54; Lindengracht 160; 3 Nieuwe Willemsstraat) is the kind of place where one beer soon
turns to half a dozen - maybe it's the influence of the old-guard arts types who hang
out here. Try soaking it up with what many people vote as the best tosti (toasted
sandwich) in town.
