Anyone who likes peculiar old stuff might enter De Looier Antiques Centre

7/10/17 Elandsgracht) , a knick-knack minimall, and never come out. You're just as likely
to find 1940s silk dresses as you are 1970s Swedish porn. Brasserie Blazer serves
well-priced French fare inside to fuel the browsing.
Tunes at Johnny Jordaanplein
The small square Johnny Jordaanplein (cnr Prinsengracht & Elandsgracht; 13/14/17 Wester-
markt) is dedicated to the local hero and singer of schmaltzy tunes such as Bij ons in de
Jordaan (We in the Jordaan). There are bronze busts of Johnny and his band, but the
real star here is the colourful utility hut splashed with nostalgic lyrics.
Wander the Negen Straatjes
The Negen Straatjes (Nine Streets; www.de9straatjes.nl ) comprise a tic-tac-toe board of wee
shops dealing in vintage fashions, housewares and oddball specialities from tooth-
brushes to antique eyeglass frames. It's bounded by Reestraat, Hartenstraat and
Gasthuismolensteeg to the north and Runstraat, Huidenstraat and Wijde Heisteeg to
the south. Bonus points if you find the doll doctor!
Munch at Lunchcafe Nielsen
Looking for where the locals go to lunch and brunch in the Negen Straatjes? Lunch-
cafe Nielsen ( 330 60 06; Berenstraat 19; mains €5-10; 8am-4pm Mon-Fri, to 6pm Sat, 9am-5pm
Sun; 13/14/17 Westermarkt) it is. Under leafy murals, chow on speciality quiches, salads,
and fresh lemon and apple cakes that disappear as quickly as they're put out.
