Getting Around
Journey Planner
Journey Planner ( www.9292ov.nl ) calculates routes, costs and travel times, and will get you from door to door,
wherever you're going in the city.
Tram
Best for… Most sightseeing and neighbourhood destinations.
Fast, frequent trams operate between 6am and 12.30am.
Tickets are smartcards called the OV-chipkaart ( www.ov-chipkaart.nl ) .
On trams with conductors, enter at the rear; you can buy a disposable OV-chipkaart
(€2.70, good for one hour) or day pass (€7.50) when you board. On trams without conduct-
ors (line 5, and some on line 24), buy a ticket from the driver.
When you enter and exit, wave your card at the pink machine to 'check in' and 'check
out'.
The GVB operates the tram system. You can also pick up tickets, passes and maps at the
GVB Information Office ( www.gvb.nl ; Stationsplein 10; 7am-9pm Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm Sat & Sun) . It's
across the tram tracks from Centraal Station, and attached to the VVV tourist information
office.
Metro & Bus
Best for... Some Oosterpark, Nieuwmarkt and Harbour spots.
The metro and buses primarily serve outer districts. Fares are the same as trams.
