For Free
While many travellers may bemoan the high cost of Amsterdam's lodging and
dining, look on the bright (and cheap) side. Not only is the entire Canal Ring a
Unesco World Heritage site (read: free living museum), but every day there is
something to do that is fabulous and free.
Top Tip
Free ferries depart behind Centraal Station to NDSM-werf, northern Amsterdam's edgy art community 15
minutes up harbour, and to the EYE Film Institute ( Click here ), five minutes across the river.
Even if you pay for entertainment at the Concertgebouw, Bimhuis or Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, your ticket serves
as a voucher for a free tram ride to and from the venue, and a free drink in the concert hall lobby.
