1 Amsterdam Tattoo Museum
MUSEUM
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
This wild new museum has relics aplenty to back up its 'Tatican' nickname: the first elec-
tric tattoo machine, preserved pieces of tattooed flesh (check out the Boston whaler's skin
from 1850) and painful-looking tribal implements from Borneo to Burma. Want a memento
of your visit? Ascend to the 2nd floor, where resident tattoo artists apply the ultimate keep-
sake. ( www.amsterdamtattoomuseum.com ; Plantage Middenlaan 62; adult/child €10/5;

2 Hortus Botanicus
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
Established in 1638, the Hortus Botanicus was the repository for tropical seeds and plants
Dutch ships brought back from exotic voyages. Groovy greenery includes the Palmhouse's
300-year-old cycad, one of the world's oldest potted plants; and a semi- circular garden
representing the entire plant kingdom. Guided tours (additional €1) of the compact grounds
are held at 2pm on Sundays. (Botanical Garden; www.dehortus.nl ; Plantage Middenlaan 2a; adult/child €7.50/

3 Verzetsmuseum
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
Intriguing exhibits detail how locals fought the German occupation during WWII. Learn
how the illegal press operated and how thousands of people (like Anne Frank) were kept in
hiding. It wasn't all noble: another chilling display articulates the reasons many citizens re-
fused to shelter Jews. A smaller wing covers the Resistance in the Dutch East Indies. (Dutch
