Of the Vondelpark's many cafes, Vertigo buzzes loudest. The terrace offers prime sun-
shiney seats to settle into, while swigging a brew and watching the action. It also prepares
picnic baskets for takeaway. A cinema theme prevails inside (Vertigo is located in the old
EYE Film Institute), with headshots of everyone from Ingrid Bergman to Dutch film star
Carice van Houton on the wall. Service can be spotty.

This is a real gathering place for the Old South. When the weather's warm, pretty much
everyone heads to the front terrace for a view of the surrounding Amsterdam School archi-
tecture. When skies are grey, soak up the atmosphere in the art deco interior.
